I could throw out all kinds of excuses about my lazy blogging habits lately, but really I just haven’t been in the mood because I’ve been having too much fun doing other things:
- Taking a couple of extra vacation days in addition to our Thanksgiving Break, adding up to a grand total of 9 days off in a row!
- Making a tasty soup from our Thanksgiving leftovers
- Enjoying the Van Gogh – Sheaves of Wheat exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art
- Going on bike rides with Ben and Brian
- Playing family games of Uno and Millebornes
- Updating the family Christmas planner
- Fitting in lots of Christmas shopping before the stores got crowded – I think we’re about 2/3 done. The rest will be online or quick lunchtime errands. I did give gifts.com a try and found it to be pretty useful for generating ideas.
- Baking many breakfast muffins, scones, popovers, and a new frontier for me – cinnamon rolls
- Getting Christmas lights put up outside while it’s still beautiful weather
- Remembering what it’s like to consistently get enough sleep
- And now, remembering what it’s like to be back in the work week when it’s almost impossible to get enough sleep
- Watching a movie all by myself, just for me, contributing to aforementioned lack of sleep
So that’s a glimpse at my not-very-blogworthy but pretty-darn-satisfying life lately. This is such a wonderful time of year and I’m particularly enjoying it this go-around. I love how fall in Texas gets mixed right in with the Christmas season. The leaves have been good and crunchy underfoot and our brilliantly green and red Bradford Pear tree in the backyard gets me in the Christmas spirit as much as any snow-covered fir. I’m sure the holiday freakout frenzy will occur at some point, but for now I’m biting off little bits of seasonal fun and savoring each moment!
